Licvem, NYK Launch Joint Venture
Danish logistics firm Licvem Shipping & Trading and Japanese breakbulk shipper NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers have signed an agreement to create a new joint venture company, Licvem NBP.
The joint venture will combine both firms’ global expertise in handling heavy-lift and project cargo and will see Licvem and NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers collaborate to “develop a business for the carriage of breakbulk cargo to/from ports primarily in Europe and Africa market.”
The new company is expected to operate three to eight multipurpose vessels for breakbulk, dry bulk, general and project cargo transport. Licvem NBP will also operate IMO and roll-on, roll-off cargo, principally but not limited to Europe and Africa routes.
NBP operates 40 crane-equipped multipurpose heavy-lift vessels out of a fleet of about 170 vessels. The firm is a wholly owned subsidiary of NYK Line, one of the world’s largest shipping companies, and a specialist in project cargo, heavy-lift cargo, steel products, and bulk cargo.
While Licvem is active as an operator of MPP vessels and charters about 45 to 60 vessels per year. The firm has an existing presence in Africa and Middle East and specializes in project and UN cargo.
