Steder Group Overcomes Flooded Roads
Steder Group Djibouti recently completed a challenging transformer project, moving the cargoes over flooded roads in Ethiopia.
The cargo consisted of four 98-ton and two 117-ton transformers, Quality Cargo Networks said in a statement on behalf of its member that belongs to both the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) and Cargo Equipment Experts CEE networks. Steder Group took delivery of the transformers in Djibouti port.
Steder’s destinations included Gebre Guracho and Chancho, both located about 1,050 kilometers from the port. The conditions were tough. It was the rainy season. Gravel roads had become flooded and slippery. At times, Steder had to use graders and bulldozers to get the trucks through. Also, the larger transformers reached more than 5 meters high, which required taking bypass roads and lifting electricity cables along the way.
At the jobsite, Steder was met again with flooded conditions. The team was able to improvise a safe discharge and installation on the foundations to complete the delivery. Also conditions on jobsite, were heavily influenced by the rain, so the team improvised to safely complete the delivery and installation on the foundations at the two plants.
