Hansa Transports RTGs To Damietta
Project cargo specialist Hansa Heavy Lift has transported four rubber-tired gantry cranes from Odessa in the Ukraine to Damietta in Egypt.
The cranes each measured 29 meters long, 12 meters wide and 24 meters high and weighed 132 tonnes. Hansa’s project team handled all loading and unloading operations using the on-deck cranes of the HHL Kobe, which delivered a combined lifting capability of up to 800 tonnes.
“We had to pay special attention in positioning the cargo due to the small tolerance for placing the flying deck and driveway pontoons on hatch covers. In addition to a structural assessment, several 3D simulations were required during the planning stage due to the height of the cargo to find the perfect maneuver needed to avoid the boom structure of the vessel’s cranes coming into contact with the unit during placement,” said Ian Broad, director of cargo management at Hansa Heavy Lift.
Hansa specializes in the transportation of heavy-lift and project cargoes, with a particular focus on transportation and installation in the subsea oil and gas market as well as the offshore wind farm sector.
