Amec Foster Wheeler Wins EPC Contract

British engineering consultancy Amec Foster Wheeler said it will supply and build an extension to a mining facility near Pretoria, South Africa.

The firm was awarded an engineering procurement and construction, or EPC, contract valued at about US$113 million to develop the Cullinan Mill Extension Project. This development follows previous front-end engineering and design work carried out by Amec Foster Wheeler on the site in 2015.

“We have a wealth of experience in the South African diamond industry and are pleased to use it to not only take the prestigious Cullinan Project to the next important phase of development but also to further our partnership with Petra Diamonds,” said Roberto Penno, president for Asia, Middle East, Africa & Southern Europe of Amec Foster Wheeler Group.

Development of the plant is expected to cost US$130 million and will improve operations at the mine’s six million ton per annum milling, dense media separation and sorting process facilities.

Amec Foster Wheeler operates in more than 55 countries worldwide and employs more than 40,000 people. The firm has three key business units covering engineering, project delivery operations and power equipment. Work on the Cullinan Mill Extension Project will be carried out via its South African mining subsidiary, MDM Engineering.
