Emirates Flies Bridge Components To Uganda
Logistics provider Emirates SkyCargo has delivered a consignment of heavy machinery and steel components for a new bridge on the Nile River in Uganda.
The cargo weighed 84 tons and included a winch system, a “down-the-hole” hammer, and steel parts for the bridge.
The contract was awarded by the Japanese construction company responsible for building the new bridge and involved transport of the items from Tokyo’s Narita Airport to Entebbe International Airport near Lake Victoria in Uganda.
“This was a very high profile charter for what clearly is a very important project in Uganda. We were delighted to be entrusted by the construction company to move this load, and prove that Emirates SkyCargo has the capability and capacity to move large and outsized cargo, requiring careful planning,” said Ravishankar Mirle, Emirates vice president for commercial cargo in the Far East and Australaisa.
“Our field teams in Japan and Uganda along with our Dubai based freighter and charters and hub operations teams worked very hard to ensure the success of this charter,” Mirle said.
Emirates SkyCargo is a subsidiary of investment firm The Emirates Group, a wholly owned entity of the United Arab Emirates government. The cargo was flown via the carrier’s hub airport in Dubai.
