Damen to Supply ATD 2412 Tugboats
Dutch shipbuilder Damen Shipyards Group said it will supply four tugboats to global towage operator Svitzer for use in the Dominican Republic and to expand its global fleet.
The four ATD 2412 tugs will be built at the Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam and the first vessels will be delivered in less than one month. These two vessels, named Svitzer Maimon and Svitzer Beata, will be delivered to Svitzer’s Dominican Republic joint venture with Remolcadores Dominicanos.
Two additional tugboats are due for delivery in August and have yet to be assigned. All four vessels will feature Damen’s 24-metre Azimuth Tractor Drive design. This compact, heavy-duty tug yields an tonne bollard pull of more than 65 tonnes.
“As Svitzer’s main point contact within Damen, I am looking forward to continuing this successful and enjoyable relationship. This large contract is a good indication of our continued future cooperation,” said Chiel de Leeuw, Damen key account manager.
Damen Shipyards Group employs about 9,000 people globally and delivers around 180 vessels annually. The firm operates 32 shipbuilding and repair yards worldwide.
